Connecting ChatGPT
Give ChatGPT desktop access to Popmelt taste models for AI-powered design guidance.
tl;dr Give ChatGPT access to Popmelt via /connect or by adding a custom app. Authorize via OAuth, and start chatting.
Before you begin
Make sure you have..
- ChatGPT desktop app or web - Download from openai.com/chatgpt/desktop or use chatgpt.com
- ChatGPT Pro, Plus, Team, Business, Enterprise, or Education subscription
- A Popmelt account - Create yours at popmelt.com
👔 If you're on a Team or Enterprise plan, your workspace admin may need to enable Developer Mode first in Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles.
Step 1: Enable Developer Mode
Instant
Visit popmelt.com/app/connect, find ChatGPT in the list, and click to open ChatGPT's app settings directly.
Manual
- Open ChatGPT (desktop app or web)
- Go to Settings → Apps → Advanced settings
- Toggle Developer Mode to ON
Step 2: Add Popmelt App
- Navigate to Settings → Apps
- Click Create
- Enter a name:
Popmelt - Enter the server URL:
https://mcp.popmelt.com - For authentication, select OAuth
Step 3: Authorize Popmelt
- ChatGPT will prompt you to authorize
- Sign in to Popmelt if needed
- Click "Grant" to authorize ChatGPT's access
- Return to ChatGPT - you're connected!
🔒 Popmelt never reads or stores your chats. ChatGPT will ask for permission before using Popmelt tools.
Step 4: Start Chatting
Start a new chat and ask: Connect to Popmelt and show my taste models
ChatGPT should list your available taste models.

Troubleshooting
ChatGPT isn't using Popmelt
Solutions:
- Explicitly mention Popmelt: "Use Popmelt to..."
- Check that the app shows as connected in settings
- Start a new conversation
Can't find Developer Mode or Apps settings
Solutions:
- Ensure you have a ChatGPT Pro, Plus, or Team subscription
- Update to the latest ChatGPT desktop app version
- For Team/Enterprise, ask your workspace admin to enable Developer Mode
OAuth flow doesn't complete
Solutions:
- Ensure you're logged into Popmelt
- Try removing and re-adding the connection
- Clear ChatGPT app cache and try again

Custom MCP apps work on desktop and web. Mobile support may come later.
Which ChatGPT plans support this?
Pro, Plus, Team, Business, Enterprise, and Education plans all support Developer Mode and custom apps.
Can I use voice mode with Popmelt?
Yes. ChatGPT voice mode can invoke MCP tools. Say "use my Popmelt taste model" and describe what you want to build.
How do I disconnect Popmelt?
Go to Settings → Apps, find Popmelt, and remove it.
